It has been two months and 9 days since my stunning, elegant, gold and green eyed Fletcher passed into the other world peacefully in my arms. This photo is especially poignant, as Fletcher mustered his strength to enjoy a last nose kiss on January 20th, 2013. So thin, so weakened by the ravages of metastisized lung cancer, my constant companion of almost 17 years, Fletcher's spirit was shining. He was ready to take that majestic leap in to the afterlife, where no longer there would be pain, nor the restrictions of illness. Through the incredible support of New England Pet Hospice, Fletcher and I enjoyed 7 amazing weeks together following his terminal diagnosis. Pain and discomfort were managed so beautifully with the caring assistance of Dr. Erika De Beckers of Ark Animal Home Care. The quiet hours of winter were gifts as Fletcher, ever vocal, extended his paws to ease my tears, and purred like a motor engine resting with me on the bed. Sacred time. Fletcher, born on a balmy May 4th in 1996, was spectacular feline. He was black silk in motion, an acrobat of such grace as he swooped up to great heights as if a magician. His devotion, his intelligence, his compassion were all part of my angel cat's great beauty. I knew him at one week old, a tiny ball of coal fluff, with ears unfurled and eyes yet to open. The bond was immediate and is eternal. Fletcher is the inspiration for "Paw Prints On Our Hearts" as I know he would want me to comfort others who face the physical death of their pets. He wants you all to know that just as he is happy, free and my guardian now in spirit, so are your beloved animals. Love never dies. I sense Fletcher's enormous heart and spirit everywhere around me. I miss him dearly but know he is with me just as your pets who have crossed over remain with you.
